Most questions about how the app behaves — especially silence, or sensor activity you didn't expect — are answered by understanding how the mechanism works. Start with How It Works and Field Use if you haven't yet. This page covers setup, purchases, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

Meridian Loom requires an iPhone running iOS 15.1 or later.

Download and purchases

Restoring the vocabulary expansion. If you've purchased the expanded vocabulary and it's not showing on a device, open Settings within the app and select Restore Purchase. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

Purchase not going through. In-app purchases are processed by Apple. If a purchase fails or doesn't complete, check your connection and payment method in your Apple ID account settings, then try again from within the app.

Permissions

Location. Location is only used if you enable it for session logging, to record where a session took place. If you've denied location access and want to turn it on, go to iOS Settings > Meridian Loom > Location and enable it there.

Motion & Fitness. Meridian Loom requests access to motion sensors to read the magnetometer. If this permission was denied, the app won't be able to detect field activity. Enable it under iOS Settings > Meridian Loom.

Session behavior

The app seems too quiet. This is usually expected behavior, not a bug — see Why Meridian Loom Stays Silent on the How It Works page. If you want the app to respond more readily, try raising sensitivity in settings.

The app seems too active, or is responding to phone movement rather than the environment. The magnetometer reads the field relative to the phone itself, so rotating or repositioning the phone changes the reading even without any change in the environment. Try holding the phone in a stable position, and consider adjusting motion damping if you're moving through a space during the session — see Field Use for details.

What is test mode? Test mode lets you preview how the app responds without needing real field movement, useful for getting familiar with the interface before a session. It's available from the settings screen. Output generated in test mode isn't meant to represent a real investigation and isn't logged as a session.

Transcripts and data

Exporting a PDF. From a session's history, use the export option to generate a PDF transcript, which you can then save or share to any destination on your device.

Deleting session data. Sessions can be deleted individually from session history. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data, since Meridian Loom doesn't store anything on a server.
